‘Round the Mountain' Canoe and Kayak Races,Saturday, May 17
at 11 a.m.Saranac Lake,10.5 miles. This flat-water race starts at Ampersand Bay
Resort on Lower Saranac Lake. Paddlers go southwest to Bluff Island, where they
turn south into mouth of Saranac River. They then follow the river to the Lower
Locks, where there is short carry to Oseetah Lake. Participants then cross the
lake to the islands in the northwest. The course then leads to Lake Flower in
village of Saranac Lake, where the finish line awaits. Padders are encouraged
to bring their own shuttle from the start to finish. The race ends line just minutes
away from the start by car.

Marathon to Tupper Lake,Sunday, August 10 at 9 a.m.,Tupper Lake,30 miles,This
30-mile flatwater race starts at the Saranac Inn on Upper Saranac Lake, then goes
south the length of the lake to Indian Carry (1 mile) to Stoney Creek Ponds. Paddlers
make their way down the twisty Stoney Creek and turn right onto Raquette River.
The river leads to Simon Pond, where the race ends at the Tupper Lake Rod &
Gun Club.
The Cabin Fever Quilters of Saranac Lake, NY will hold their Eleventh,
Quilt Show and Sale on August 14 (10 - 8), August 15 (10 - 4) and August 16 (10
- 4). It will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 57 Church Street, Saranac
Lake, NY. Admission is free. It will feature quilts, a silent auction and special

Adirondack Canoe Classic, Friday
through Sunday, September 5-7,Old Forge, Long Lake, Saranac Lake,90 miles,This
three-day, 90-mile flatwater race follows the original highways of the Adirondacks
from Old Forge to Saranac Lake. The course offers a mix of lake and river flatwater
paddling with several carries. Participants receive a T-shirt, mileage pins, awards,
camping, snacks, boat shuttles and a post race meal. Entry forms for this race
go out via U.S. Mail in June. The event is limited to 250 canoes. Entry deadline

at the past, (1860’s), during the most turbulent years in American history.
The American Civil War would cost the lives of 632,026 men, women & children
not counting civilians. A war which would cost approximately $2.5 million per
day, (in 1860), for 4 years, to wage. A war where American fought Americans, fathers
fought sons, and brothers fought brothers. A war which would involve every major
